Are you ready for the exciting opportunity and challenge to be developed into a Band 7 OT post via our bespoke in-house Band 6 developmental programme?

We are excited to offer you an accelerated training and education program to aid in your development as an occupational therapist. You will join us as an experienced band 6 and once you successfully complete the relevant training and evidence agreed competencies you will transition into one of our Band 7 OT post by the end of month period.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Occupational Therapy; excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and enthusiasm with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT.

We want to help develop your career and make you ready for your future to being a Band 7 Highly specialized Occupational Therapist. In addition to the bespoke Band 6 to Band 7 development programme, we offer a robust teaching and training programme with the opportunity to complete Quality Improvement and Audit projects.

You will have the opportunity to further develop your clinical specialist and leadership skills and be involved in key clinical pathway development to continually improve patient care for you to be able to transition into B7 OT role. 

The role is permanent during which the first 12 months would be the developmental period to achieve certain competencies with the aim to be a Band 7 by the end of 12 months.

Main duties of the job

  • To play a specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment and clinical management of patients with Occupational Therapy needs on our Elective surgery ward.
  • This will be a split role between the OT specific clinical work (60%) and the development and support of our Occupational Therapists within the wider Surgery team (40%).
  • To facilitate and support a multi-professional team approach within the clinical area.
  • To work with the Clinical Lead Therapist to develop the service.
  • Speciality areas include:
    • Neuro-oncology
    • Neurosurgery
    • Spinal
    • Vascular
    • Gynae-oncology
    • Lower Gastro-intestinal surgery
    • AAU (weekend working only)

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational therapy
  • Valid HCPC registration
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience as a senior Band 6 OT
  • Post registration experience in relevant clinical setting: surgical wards, other wards in an acute setting
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience supervising and appraising staff
  • Experience of audit/research
  • Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HPC recommendations
