We are looking for an experienced Speech & Language Therapist to join our Adult Critical Care Team at the Royal London Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SLT with a passion for working in Critical Care.
The role will be predominantly based on the Adult Critical Care Unit - a mixed ITU that includes neuro, medical, and surgical patients. You will be responsible for providing expert assessment and management of swallowing and communication disorders, alongside supporting the wider Acute Team in providing clinical support across the hospital site.
You will be part of a dynamic team, working collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients. As a senior member of the team, you will also have responsibility for supporting and mentoring your colleagues, as well as contributing to service development and clinical governance.
This post will require management of tracheostomised and ventilated patients and input to our FEES and videofluoroscopy clinics. Training and support will be provided in these areas as required.
We are looking for an experienced clinician who will provide holistic patient care, build and nurture relationships within an MDT across multiple pathways and teams and to lead with compassion.

The post holder will be a Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist and will be a member of the SLT service based at the Royal London Hospital. The Royal London Hospital is one of four major trauma centres across London and leads the trauma network for North East London and Essex.
The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team based at RLH delivering therapy to patients primarily in Critical Care but also the general medical & surgical wards as part of the Acute SLT team. The role will include specialist assessment and treatment to adults with complex acquired communication and swallowing difficulties, including tracheostomy management, videofluoroscopy and FEES.

- Health and Care Professions Council – Licence to Practice

- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) in adult critical care
Experience

- Extensive experience as a Speech & Language Therapist in a clinical setting, ideally with a focus on adult critical care, respiratory, and/or neurological rehabilitation.
- Experience of assessing, diagnosing, and treating adult patients with dysphagia and communication disorders in acute care settings.
- Experience of working as part of a MDT in a fast-paced, critical care environment.
- Experience in providing education and training to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
- Independent in videofluoroscopy
- Independent in SLT tracheostomy management

- Experience working in a dedicated critical care or intensive care unit (ICU) with a focus on respiratory support and weaning.
- Experience with advanced therapeutic interventions such as ventilator-supported communication or AAC
- Experience with tracheostomy with mechanical ventilation
- Independent in FEES assessment
- Lead Videofluoroscopy Clinician.
