Consultant Urological Surgeon

Applicants are invited to apply for a Consultant Urological Surgeon post based on the Whipps Cross Site of Barts Health.
We are looking for a full-time (10PA) Consultant Urological Surgeon who is an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our Urology Department. This is a pivotal role designed to enhance and expand our specialist services in benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) and urological cancer diagnosis and management.
We are particularly keen to appoint a surgeon with expertise in innovative / noval BPE management i.e. HoLEP and cancer diagnostics.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in delivering and developing high-quality, evidence-based care for patients with LUTS/BPE and those on the 2WW suspected cancer pathway.
This role is central to the Trust’s aim of enhancing its high-volume day-case surgery and minimally invasive urology service, contributing to elective and emergency patient pathways, outpatient LUTS clinics and the full range of surgical options for benign prostatic disease, while also playing a key role in shaping future service models and clinical governance in Cancer Diagnostic work in the department.
Key duties will be running and supervising operating lists, General Urology and developing specialist LUTS clinics, cancer diagnostics / specialist prostate biopsy clinics, on call cover and ward rounds.
You will also be caring for patients on wards in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including junior doctors, ward nurses and specialist nursing teams.
The unit is very active in research, quality improvements and audits and the post holder will be expected to fully participate in this activity.
You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and be on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of obtaining CCST

- Widespread broad based knowledge of all aspects of Urological surgery
Training Expected

- Higher Specialist Training in Urological surgery.
- Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates
- Experience in general urology
- Experience in urological cancer diagnostics
- Experience in Emergency Urology

- Expertise in novel techniques in managing benign prostatic enlargement including holmium laser enucleation of prostate (HoLEP) / Rezum / Urolift
- Expertise in prostate cancer diagnostics / TP biopsies and running a multidisciplinary team meeting

- Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
