Job overview
Consultant Vascular/Endovascular Surgeon x 2 (10 PA +1; Permanent)
We are looking to appoint 2 substantive Consultant Vascular/Endovascular Surgeons with broad training and experience across geenral vascular surgery and subspeciality interest in lower limb revascularisation. The 2 post-holders will join Mr Sarkar in developing and delivering the lower limb critical limb ischaemia pathway. Independent surgeon-delivered endovascular practice will be encouraged and supported.
Key duties will include supervising and running outpatient clinics; hybrid and open surgery operating lists; care for patients on the ward in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward nurses and specialist vascular nursing teams; contribution to the vascular MDTs; vascular and endovascular working; teaching of medical students, junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals.
The posts will be based at the Royal London Hospital with spoke site responsibilities at Newham University Hospital including OPD; ward round, varicose vein office procedures (see detailed Job-plans). Further opportunities are expected to arise at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Trust is currently engaged in reconfiguration planning alongside Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
• The post holder will have completed SpR training or equivalent and obtained the CCT and have a clear track record of training in vascular surgery including endovascular techniques.
• The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Vascular surgical services to Barts Health. All general vascular opportunities will be available with an emphasis on the management of patients with critical limb ischaemia as well as advancement of the peripheral endovascular surgery service.
• The current facilities and clinical responsibilities are largely centered at The Royal London Hospital but as post-holder you will also be required to deliver care flexibly at other sites – it is envisioned that the post-holder will undertake a clinic and ward round and a day surgery (endovenous) operating list at Newham hospital on a weekly basis, with the possibility of future working in a planned interventional radiology suite there.
• To undertake 1 day of operating in hybrid/main theatre.
• To take part in a Vascular surgeon of the week rota on a 1:9 basis, providing consultant-delivered ward rounds, daytime CEPOD list support, supervising and training resident doctors and other healthcare staff.
• To provide evidence-based care for all patients
