Job overview

The post holder will work as a member of the established Portering team to provide a Portering service, to the Trust, that is highly visible, service user focused and professional at all times with the overarching goals of creating a safe and crime free environment for all patients, staff, visitors, and the public.

Main duties of the job

Keyboard skills required

Occasional moderate lifting

There is a frequent requirement for light physical effort for several long periods during a shift

Frequent exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances due to the nature of the role.

Frequent exposure to difficult customers, service users, often in emotional circumstances

Requirement to use Visual Display Unit equipment continuously most days.

Frequent requirement to work outdoors

Frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions

There is a frequent requirement for light physical effort for several short periods during a shift

Ability to remain alert and calm throughout the shift

Have a basic level of problem solving and multi-tasking capability

Will be frequently interrupted due to the changing nature of the role.

There is a frequent requirement for concentration where the work pattern is unpredictable

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full UK driving license
Desirable criteria
  • Literacy Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C)
  • Numeracy Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C)
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Training Manual
  • Handling Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking manual handling activity
  • Experience working in a hospital or care environment
  • Previous experience in conflict resolution, diffusion and breakaway

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to use a computer to a basic level
  • Ability to record written information accurately
