Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Practitioner to join our MSK team. The successful candidate will work autonomously, providing expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions, using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence based practice.

The post holder will provide specialist clinical leadership, support service development, and contribute to the delivery of high quality, patient centred care across the organisation. Working within the four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice, you will play a key role in education, service improvement, clinical governance, research, and audit activities.

You will provide expert advice and support to physiotherapists, multidisciplinary colleagues, and external stakeholders, whilst contributing to the training and development of undergraduate and postgraduate students and the wider workforce.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead, develop, and evaluate the Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner service, working collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure the effective assessment and management of patients within Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner clinic
  • To provide a high standard of specialist clinical care for adults presenting with complex musculoskeletal conditions, utilising advanced assessment, diagnostic, and clinical reasoning skills.
  • To provide clinical leadership within the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Service, supporting service development, quality improvement, and the delivery of evidence based care.
  • To provide expert clinical advice and professional guidance to managers and multidisciplinary colleagues, contributing to the strategic development of physiotherapy services across the organisation in line with the principles of clinical governance.

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD in MSK physiotherapy in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
  • Postgraduate education/courses in MSK
  • Educational attainment at level 7 in MSK
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • Clinical interest group membership
  • Leadership training
  • Injection Therapy qualification
  • Knowledge/experience of pain services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive NHS experience in musculoskeletal
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • Experience of managing complex patients including those with red flag presentations and potentially suspicious pathology.
  • Experience of teaching and training colleagues and peers in specialist skills associated with the role
  • Experience of planning, organising and undertaking high level audit and research and development relevant to the service.
  • A well-developed understanding of the wider context musculoskeletal heath and its impact upon local health economies.
  • Understanding of the role of Clinical Governance in Health Care Services and its application to MSK Physiotherapy
  • Previous experience of working as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner autonomously.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Highly developed physical skills and manual dexterity which are used with a high degree of precision to assess and diagnose MSK disorders.
  • Established planning / organisational / time management skills to ensure continuity of service and further service development
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop a specific package of care for a specialised / complex patient caseload.
  • Ability to complete supervision and appraisal of own and others skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with an unpredictable work pattern with frequent interruptions while still being responsive to the needs of the patient and the service
