Job overview
Job Purpose
The post holder will participate with colleagues to maintain a rota of cover for Edgware and Finchley
Walk in Centre’s for agreed hours. The services are currently operational between 8am and 8pm but
this may be subject to change, and GPs will be in attendance between 9am to 7pm, or 10am to 8pm.
Subject to negotiation the post holder may work agreed set hours or work flexibly. They will participate
with colleagues to provide clinical assessment and diagnosis for patients and manage the capacity of
the facility. They will also provide support to other healthcare staff to ensure highest quality of care
for all patients. The post holder will be expected to work across either site as required.
Main duties of the job
- Clinical Responsibilities
To provide high quality general practitioner medical services in the Walk-In Centre to patients
of all ages.
Provide support to the team of nurse practitioners and healthcare staff in the assessment and treatment of unscheduled walk-in consultations and patients referred for an appointment by
NHS 111.
Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
Use evidence-based knowledge when treating patients.
To provide appropriate health education, advice and safety netting to patients attending the WIC
To appropriately request and interpret investigations including ECGs and X-rays.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be alert to the needs of vulnerable people and be aware of and compliant with safeguarding
procedures for both children and adults.
Issuing electronic prescriptions and prescribe according to best practice and generically whenever this is clinically appropriate.
To dispense medication from stock within agreed medicines management protocols.
Responsible for gaining valid, informed consent for assessment and treatment interventions, sharing of information following legal and professional guidelines and ensuring these guidelines are adhered to with patients/ clients who do not have the ability to provide informed
consent.
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake most duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Skills in managing patients attending with injuries would be advantageous but is not essential as most of these patients are attended to by clinical practitioners.

Essential criteria
- GMC Registration
- MRCGP Qualification and registration
- Currently on a Medical Performers List
- Evidence of professional development and engagement with annual GMC appraisal
- Basic Life Support Qualification

- Intermediate Life Support course
Experience

- Practiced as fully qualified GP in the UK
- Self-Audit and reflection
- Understand the health and social needs of the local population
- Computer Literacy
