Central London Community Healthcare Academy have partnered with University of East London and University of Hertfordshire to deliver this exciting four-year apprenticeship program. Successful completion leads to Occupational Therapist registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Start date of the apprenticeship: Next available cohort 
Interviews will be held: 20th June 2025

Main duties of the job

This is a developmental role for those already working within Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust who can demonstrate working in a clinical healthcare environment. External candidates will not be considered on this occasion. 

The apprentice will work towards progression into the post of Occupational Therapist through successful completion of the Occupational Therapy apprenticeship which includes the attainment of a level 6 BSc (honours) degree. 

The Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. As an apprentice you will have a primary base as an employee, in a particular organisation, in a specific setting, but will have placements to experience working in alternative settings in order that they gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts and are able to fulfil all the requirements of the programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Essential requirements: 
•    Aged over 18 on the first day of programme 
•    Have an eligible residency status
•    Have the right to work and study in England
•    UK Maths and English level 2 or equivalent
(This includes functional skills level 2, GCSE C and above (or 4 and above) or O level C or above)
•    Equivalent level 3 qualifications to 112 UCAS points including a science subject 
Additional information to note:
•    You will be required to present the hard copies of your certificates on the day of the interview. 
•    Any original overseas qualification documentation will need to be accompanied by a UK NARIC / ENIC statement of comparability, with evidence of this in your application. 
•    Applicants must have been ordinary resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years and any visas must cover the full length of the apprenticeship with no renewal date. 
•    Please use your supporting statement to demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria in the person specification at the bottom of the job description. 
•    Level 3 qualifications equivalent to 120 UCAS points

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • UK Maths and English level 2 with certificates to evidence (This includes: functional skills level 2, GCSE C/4 and above or O level C or above) (Any overseas qualifications will need to be accompanied by a UKNARIC statement of comparability and English must have been studied as a first language)
  • Level 3 or above qualification equivalent to a minimum of 120 UCAS points including a science or healthcare subject. This can include A level, Access to Higher Education diploma, BTEC / NVQ Diploma or Extended / National Diploma with certificates
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate evidence of recent academic achievement, such that they may be deemed capable of study at degree level
Desirable criteria
  • Interest in undertaking further relevant studies/training course

Experience

  • Awareness of health and care settings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working with electronic patient records such as SystmOne, RIO, EMIS
  • Previous experience of working within a health and/or care setting

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sufficient keyboard skills for clinical and data input and letter writing and ability to use MS office or similar internet and email
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, confident and articulate
  • Ability to plan, organise and coordinate work under own initiative, be flexible and prioritise competing demands for attention to provide best care available to patients in case which may involve changing plans where necessary
  • Understanding scope of role of Occupational Therapist Assistant in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
