CLCH is one of the largest Community Health Trusts in England, providing services to more than two million people across London and Hertfordshire. It is a diverse sector, providing a range of different services, all with the aim of shifting health care from acute hospital settings closer to people’s homes; moving away from reactive care to preventative care based on early interventions.

We have are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, responsive and innovative Band 8a Pharmacist to join our experienced and expanding Medicines Management Team at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust.

You will support the Chief Pharmacist in implementing the Medicines Management Strategy in line with national and local policy and will have the opportunity to develop new skills in directorate activities including financial reporting, risk management, implementation of digital systems and quality improvement.

You will support the Lead Pharmacist for Quality and Governance in line with their role as Medication Safety Officer for the trust. 

 

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing medicines management support to community based teams and undertake core directorate activities including:

Providing Medicines Management input to the Clinical Systems Team to support the ongoing development and deployment of digital systems (EPS and EPMA) throughout the Trust.

Writing of governance and financial reports.

Development of medicines management policies and supporting the patient group directions (PGDs) agenda.

Implementation of patient safety initiatives e.g. drug alerts, patient safety alerts.

Support the Medication Safety Officer of the trust by deputising in their absence.

Assuring the safe and secure handling of medicines in community services in line with CQC requirements.

Training health professionals in the community.

Management of junior pharmacists and community health services technicians.

As the successful candidate, you will have good communication and interpersonal skills and will need to be able to engage and influence a range of stakeholders including, service leads and clinicians.

You should be flexible, plan and organise own workload as well as developing and supporting the junior staff.

The post holder will be based in Parsons Green but may also be required to travel to other sites and services within the organisation and may be required to support bedded services so will require flexibility as the organisation continues to grow; please see the Trust website for the area that is covered.

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy & Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience through relevant short courses
Desirable criteria
  • Other postgraduate qualifications relevant to pharmacy practice, such as management, leadership or education & training qualifications
  • RPS faculty member

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-qualification experience of drug information or prescribing advice
  • Contributed to investigations into medication errors within the NHS
  • Experience of training or teaching multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
  • Have a minimum of five years post registration experience
  • Experience of undertaking quality improvement, research and audit
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing pharmacy services in digital medicines
  • Project management experience
  • Primary and secondary care experience
  • Experience of audit techniques
  • Experience in supervising a team/service
  • Project management experience

Other

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills– both verbal and written including presentation skills
  • Ability to assimilate, analyse and interpret clinical and financial data. Good problem solving skills.
  • Computer literate including word processing and advanced spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to plan, set objectives, priorities and review performance against objectives

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable evidence of up to date clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge
  • Understanding of the NHS and political environment
  • Familiarity with Digital Medicines Systems including EPMA
Desirable criteria
  • Experience and knowledge of legislation to support medicines related activities including CAS Alerts, Never Events
  • Significant experience of project implementation
  • Knowledge and experience of provision of pharmacy services to community services
