Physical Activity Leader - Band 4 - 166 Roehampton Lane

CLCH are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated physical activity leader to join our Wandsworth Healthy Lifestyle Team.

The Wandsworth Healthy Lifestyle Team work across the borough to deliver Health4Life weight management programmes to children aged 2-11 as well as Mothers with a baby under 2 years old. The team work alongside the Health Visitors and School Nurses to provide excellent locally based care to families within the Wandsworth borough.

You will need to display excellent communication skills and be able to work in a kind and compassionate manner to deliver motivating physical activity sessions. You will need to be creative in your approach to exercise in order to engage children of all ages. Mobile and agile working is a key part of the way the services operates so you will need to be comfortable travelling between venues throughout the day.

This role would be suitable for individuals with a background as a personal trainer, exercise coach, exercise instructor, PE teacher,  sports coach, etc.

  • Degree or Diploma in relevant subject area, or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through working in a specialised physical activity role.
  • REPS/CIMSPA registered
  • Experience working with children

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 exercise-related qualification, registered with CIMSPA
  • A degree/diploma/equivalent knowledge and experience gained through working in specialised physical activity
  • Post-natal exercise qualification
  • Basic literacy and numeracy, general education
Desirable criteria
  • Nutrition qualification/CPD
  • Evidence of continuing education and training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of delivering and promoting physical activity programs in a community environment
  • Experience of planning a series of progressive physical activity sessions leading to sustainable community participation
  • Experience of working with adults and children (age 0-11) in a 1-2-1 and group environment to support positive lifestyle change
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing or developing health interventions for targeted groups
  • • Experience in dealing with members of the public who may have communication difficulties

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of physical activity, health policy, and the links between physical activity and health as well as knowledge of the public health agenda, current health legislation, and the health care needs of individuals in the community
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate projects
  • Knowledge of managing difficult situations and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of implementing evidence-based practice and ability to identify/access sources of information to inform practice
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and plan, organise, review and prioritise own workload
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to organisational needs, adapting to change with an open approach to new ways of working
  • Excellent I.T. skills across and a proven ability to master new I.T. systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
