Job overview
· Chelsea and Westminster Hospital provides centre-level intensive burn care for adults and High dependency unit level care for non-ventilated paediatric burn injuries up to 30% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA).
· This is the only major burns centre providing acute, reconstructive and rehabilitation burn care of the highest quality to a population of 17 million people in London and the South East of England as part of the Regional Burns Network.
· The unit contains 16 adult beds, including four with intensive care capabilities and also 6 paediatric beds with access to Paediatric high dependency.
The Consultant, nursing and allied health professional cohorts at our Hospital form a cohesive, multidisciplinary team involved in relevant decision-making forums for Burn care including the major trauma network, the executive group of the British Burns Association and the London and South East Burns Network.
Main duties of the job
· Responsibility for inpatient and outpatient management with 6 other Burns Surgeons and close working with the other team members to provide the highest possible standards of care in diagnosis and management of children and adults with burns.
· Specialist Burns MDT attendance.
· Collaborative working with the Burns MDT and wider Plastic Surgery Unit.
· Involvement in a 1 in 7 on call for burns trauma with prospective cover.
· Facilitate 7 day per week Consultant ‘on-site’ cover at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
· Contribution to postgraduate teaching of ST grades and StR grades.
· Lead for the existing work experience programme for prospective medical students

Essential
Essential criteria
- UK registerable Medical Degree
- FRCS (plast) or equivalent
- Attained CCT or within 6 months of the interview date and /or on the GMC Specialist Register
- GMC Registration
- Past record of academic achievement. Publications
Desirable criteria
- Level 3 safeguarding for children
- Burns fellowship experience
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Wide and in depth training in burns and plastic surgery
- Established record in Surgery education
- Experience of managing burns and plastic surgery trauma
- Track record in delivering service improvement initiatives
Desirable criteria
- Significant and relevant experience at consultant level
- Management training or qualification
