Job overview
We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Echocardiography Service Manager to lead and develop our cross‑site service at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven ability to deliver high‑quality clinical echo services
- Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills
- Experience in motivating, guiding and supporting physiologists within a busy multi‑site environment
- A commitment to innovation, service transformation and robust quality assurance
As Echocardiography Service Manager, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our cross‑site echo provision. You will lead on service development, workforce planning, pathway optimisation, and the introduction of advanced physiologist-led services across both hospitals.
We are developing an ambitious programme of service expansion, including:
- A comprehensive quality assurance framework
- Specialist physiologist-led clinics (e.g., valve clinic)
- Contrast and bubble studies
- Stress echocardiography services
- TOE

Main duties of the job
To ensure the systematic provision of high quality echocardiography services across Chelsea & Westminster and West Middlesex University Hospitals.
Consistently provide high quality leadership in a visible and highly professional manner, acting as a positive role model and extending the scope of the roles of the cardiac physiologists.
Work with the echocardiography teams towards the achievement of relevant standards and accreditations eg BSE, departmental, Trust and national objectives relevant to area, such as the DM01 compliance, RTT target.
Train and develop colleagues ensuring all members of the team operates at a highest level. Undertake the more complex echos and ensure colleagues are trained.
Identify improvement objectives and where appropriate identify aspects of the system that require improvement to reduce risks and prevent non-conformances.
Identify service improvement and developments and make recommendations to the appropriate stakeholders.
Undertake data analysis as required by the Quality Management System.
Uphold safe systems and environment for self, colleagues, service users and patients.

Essential criteria
- Degree in Clinical Physiology or equivalent relevant science/healthcare qualification
- BSE Accreditation
- AHCS registration
Desirable criteria
- Management qualifications
Experience, clinical skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience at specialist levels - ie Bubble, treadmill stress echo etc
- Experience of analysing, interpreting and providing expert advice for Cardiologists
- Demonstrable involvement in service improvement, pathway redesign, or operational development
- Strong understanding of national standards and guidance (e.g., BSE, GIRFT, DM01, governance requirements)
Desirable criteria
- Experience of planning and developing specialist services, including contributing to local policies
- Experience conducting and interpreting clinical audits and using findings to improve service quality.
