Job overview
The Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist will contribute to the care of a patient group by leading on defined aspects of care.
The Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist should be educated to first degree level in a health related subject and should be undertaking appropriate post registration education and development within their area of specialist practice.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Band 5 Staff Nurse in EPAG includes the following supervised activities:
· Receiving referrals to a caseload
· Providing assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of specialist care within defined guidelines and protocols
· Referring to other disciplines and agencies
· Ordering and interpreting relevant tests and investigations
· Providing advice and guidance to nurse/midwife and other disciplines
· Participating in the provision of training and education to own and other professions
· Monitoring standards
· Participating in audit and research activity
· Disseminating good practice
· Ensuring effective communication between all service providers across the care pathway
Please note: this role will require weekend shifts, bank holiday cover and cover/ work cross-site.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key responsibilities
· To receive, triage and mange referrals independently.
· To chase, interpret and manage blood test results, histology results and other.
· To manage outpatient caseloads independently.
· To independently manage the telephone clinic and telephone protected lunch hours.
· To participate on counselling, discussion of options and management of cases.
· To assist/ participate on procedures.
· To assist with emergency admissions and urgent cases.
· To independently run the clinic/ lead by managing the capacity on daily basis, escalating concerns and leasing with consultants.
· To participate/ conduct audits.
· To teach/ supports other colleagues learning pathways.
· To work flexibly as per rota supporting clinic cover on weekends, bank holidays and cross-site cover when necessary.
Person specification
Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse or Midwife
- Relevant Degree or equivalent experience in nurse/midwifery or health related field
Desirable criteria
- Undertaking appropriate post registration education and development within area of specialist practice
- Recognized teaching qualification or prepared to work towards
Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 12 months post-qualification experience of working in inpatients or outpatients relevant to the specialism
- Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Experience of formal and informal teaching
- Recent experience of data collection and audit
- Experience of nurse/midwife led clinics
- Clinical supervision experience
Skills and Knoledge
Essential criteria
- Competent in phlebotomy and cannulation
- Ability to administer prescribed medication
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Sound knowledge of the principles and practice of specialist care
- Ability to recognise the contribution of members of the MDT
- Awareness of current NHS issues and appreciation of the issues surrounding governance and quality initiatives
- Ability to work autonomously and independently
Desirable criteria
- Management / organizational / prioritization skills
- Computer literate: able to use word, excel, and manage databases
