NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We seek an enthusiastic, experienced, team player, who wishes to gain further clinical experience in Cardiac, Maternal Medicine and High Risk Obstetrics, to join our department which is the lead provider for Obstetric Medicine for North West London. The successful candidate will join a busy, thriving department that is forward looking and innovative. We are the sector leaders in many aspects of obstetric and gynaecological practice. The post will suit a candidate who wishes to undertake advanced training in maternal medicine as part of OOPE or a post-CCT trainee wishing to finesse their skill on obstetric medicine prior to taking a consultant post.

The successful candidate will carry out clinical duties within all areas of the obstetrics and gynaecology department including weekly cardiac clinic, monthly low risk cardiac clinic, once a fortnight pre-conception counselling cardiac clinic, attend the weekly Obstetric Medicine clinics (including the Joint Cardiac Clinic with Brompton and the MDT Diabetes/Endocrine Clinic), review cardiac inpatients,  attend twice weekly ward rounds twice per week (Obstetric Physician led) and Maternal Medicine MDT meetings (Cardiac, Cystic Fibrosis, Haematology, Neurology and Diabetes and Endocrine). When on call the post holder will be on the three-tier rota covering obstetrics and gynaecology in a 1:8 on out of hours call frequency as the Junior or Senior Registrar depending on prior experience.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be supported to complete the ATSM in Maternal Medicine and attend obstetric ultrasound scanning sessions to develop scanning skills. Chelsea is the lead site within the sector for abnormally invasive placentas and the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in high-risk elective obstetric procedures and other specialist Obstetric clinics (Multiple Pregnancy and Preterm Birth).

It is expected that the successful candidate will undertake clinical audits and undertake quality improvement projects (QIP) under consultant supervision within the area of Cardiac/ Maternal Medicine. The successful candidate can take an active role in optimising high risk antenatal care pathways both within the Trust and North West Maternal Medicine Network.

The post is available from November 2025 but there is flexibility in timing of the post for the successful candidate depending on OOPE needs.

Working for our organisation

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
