Job overview

Healthcare assistants (HCAs) are a vital part of the team that supports the staff and patients in wards and departments throughout the hospital. Working under the direction of qualified nursing/ midwifery staff, healthcare assistants carry out a wide range of duties to care for, support, and provide information to patients and their families and the role can be very varied depending upon the area in which the person is employed. They also carry out a range of housekeeping duties, as well as performing basic medical checks, such as taking a patient’s temperature, pulse and respiration rate.

The attitude and behaviour of a healthcare assistant is of far more importance than any formal qualifications. Suitable candidates for the role are friendly, caring and sensitive individuals, who are able to offer social stimulation as well as care to the patients they tend. 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will aim to ensure that all patients are provided with a safe and high quality standard of care.

They will be aware of the Care Quality Commission standards and support the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that they are maintained. The individual must provide a patient centred approach and will be expected to uphold and maintain the standards of care to support a culture of compassionate care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Support Role

The Senior Healthcare Support Worker is responsible for the delivery of holistic, patient- centred care which is planned and directed by health care professionals. The postholder is responsible for delivering high standards of care and providing services in accordance with the Trusts values and behaviours to support the nursing team in the delivery of patient care which is safety and effective.

The post holder is a fundamental part of the paediatric nursing team in providing care to patients/ carers/ relatives at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Trust, including the safe delivery of a range of clinical competency skills. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic healthcare assistant to work in Paediatrics. Applicants need to have excellent communication and organization skills, positive personality and a professional approach to their work. You must be able to deal with the public in a sensitive and polite manner, be flexible in your approach to duties of work, act as part of a team, and promote good teamwork.

You will enjoy a challenging varied pace and an exciting working environment, caring for a varied paediatric workload. We can offer opportunities to gain knowledge and experience working within a diverse range of specialties.

  • Demonstrable literacy and numeracy skills at level 1
  • Care Certificate

  • Apprenticeship Level 2 or equivalent experience
