56 Dean Street is an award winning HIV and Sexual Health service based in Soho in the heart of London’s West End.
We are looking for skilled and dynamic Health Advisor Assistants to join our team.
As a Health Adviser Assistant you will be responsible for results management, this includes the recall of patients with sexually transmitted infections requiring treatment, and/or partner notification.
The post also has a clinical component in providing HIV testing, assessment for HIV Post Exposure Prophylaxes (PEP) and sexual health screen including venepuncture and processing samples.
Dean Street is the busiest clinic in Europe and the post holder would need to be able to work in an always changing environment.
Previous experience is essential in HIV/Sexual Health, managing positive results, being able to offer skilled compassionate advice and care to our service users.
Main duties of the job
- To assess individual patient needs and requirements without supervision.
- To be competent in the following, with appropriate training: Venepuncture Point of care testing, Asymptomatic screening.
- To facilitate effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate input into patient care discussions.
- To provide information to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection: how they are acquired, transmitted and treated.
- To provide effective partner notification to ensure contact(s) attendance and treatment as detailed in the PN policy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- The Health Adviser Assistant will be the point of contact for recalling patient diagnosed with Sexually Transmitted Infections requiring treatment or follow up with partner notification to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts.
- To manage the Text results service offered to patients. To discuss issues with patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections including HIV for information, health education, risk reduction and support by telephone.
- To respond to patients in crisis when they ring the health advisers and assess and refer on where appropriate.
- To take on project and audit work as negotiated with the Senior Health Adviser.
- The post will also have a clinical component in providing HIV testing including pre and post test discussion and be able to undertake an asymptomatic sexual health screen including venepuncture and processing samples

Education
Essential criteria
- Evidence of recent professional development
Desirable criteria
- STIF, HIV or other clinically relevant course.
- Evidence of teaching and assessing
- A relevant counseling qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working within a Sexual Health clinic in a Recall or clinical role
- Managing HIV results along with any other STI’s such as Syphilis, and be able to facilitate the appropriate pathway of care for them.
- Evidence of Teaching and assessing
Desirable criteria
- Risk reduction training and or experience of Health promotion and education
Aptitudes, Personal,
Essential criteria
- Ability to recognize individuality and rights for each patient in relation to their values, attitudes and beliefs and working with the patient accordingly
- Competent in IT
