The catering service employs in excess of 100 directly employed staff, produces in excess of 10,000 meals a week and an annual budget of in excess of £2M.

 

The role will include working with all levels of clinical and non-clinical staff across all Trust sites as well as working closely with suppliers and contractors, customers of the services, key stakeholders and external agencies such as Environmental Health/Trading Standards

Main duties of the job

·              To develop and improve relationships with clinical teams and corporate departments whilst actively promoting the role of the catering services and building confidence in food services provided within the Trust.

·              To act as a role model for exemplary professional behaviour and inter-professional relationships, dealing with highly complex, contentious and sensitive information appropriately.

·              To ensure clear verbal and/or written communication  at all times using 1:1’s, appraisals, departmental meetings, team briefings and ‘walking the floor’ ensuring that barriers to understanding due to cultural and language differences are overcome.

·              To communicate service changes to groups of staff where there may be significant barriers to the proposed service change. Negotiating, persuasive and reasoning skills will be required to deliver the required change agenda to bring about modernisation.

To liaise with outside agencies such as local authority Environmental Health Services and Trading Standards to ensure compliance with current Food Safety Legislation

·              Responsibility for the delivery of patient,  staff and visitor catering  services  in accordance with departmental HACCP, operational and Trust policies and procedures.

·              To develop long term strategies, with particular reference to workforce and service configuration to meet emerging needs.

·              To plan and review patient menus and associated aspects of nutrition support in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team including dieticians, speech and language therapists, patient and nursing representatives to ensure compliance with CQC and CQINN requirements regarding nutritional and hydration needs.

·              To ensure systems are in place to deploy staff effectively and efficiently to  meet service demands.

·              To ensure that the catering services have robust Continuity Plans and that Risk Assessments are developed in relation to resilience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·              To provide patient and customer centered services, recognising the contribution of catering services to the overall patient experience and work with Directorates in the identification and development of new models of service provision to improve patient care.

·              To ensure that the catering team support the PLACE assessments and process for the Trust.

·              To develop and operate a quality monitoring system to ensure the highest possible standards are maintained at all times across the range of services to maximise patient/customer satisfaction and ensure that any variance to performance targets are managed pro-actively.

·              To manage the resolution of complaints, conflicts and issues from patients, staff, suppliers, other internal and external service providers and partner organisations in a timely and appropriate manner in line with the Trust Policy, procedures and service delivery values and priorities.
