Job overview

 Our staff are central to delivering the service vision and we are keen to recruit high calibre staff, who will be offered the support required to fulfil their roles as well as being provided with the training and experience to further their skills and build a career of which they can be proud of.

You will be expected to have completed the Continence course or have the willingness to complete the course. A minimum of one year experience in managing patients with bladder and bowel dysfunction as well as bringing your clinical expertise is also desirable..

 You will be a strong team player, an excellent communicator who is adaptable, committed, well organised and work well under pressure.

The post holder will ensure they deliver an effective and efficient clinical nursing services and be able to triage, assess, treat and manage clients with a bladder and/or bowel dysfunction and be able to refer on as appropriate.

Due to the nature of the post, the applicant must be willing to support patients attending continence clinic, screen referrals received via single point of access and undertake home visits to support patients in their homes or similar community setting when required.

Main duties of the job

As part of the integrated team, you will be responsible for assessing the needs of individuals in the community, clinics and residential settings, who are experiencing bladder and or bowel dysfunction concerning continence promotion, assessment, and management.

To plan, provide, evaluate and further develop regular in-service training for members of the Extended Primary Health Care Team to ensure that the promotion of continence is understood and promoted at all levels for example Male, Female and Suprapubic Catheterisation, Digital Rectal Examination and Promotion and Assessment of Continence for qualified staff and Catheter Care and Promotion of Continence for both qualified and unqualified staff

To provide an educational service to Social Services Staff, voluntary organisations and Care Home Staff as appropriate

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential criteria
  • RGN Willingness to undertake further higher level study To have undergone Continence promotion training in male/female catheterisation.
  • • Community nursing experience • Demonstrate good time management skills • Ability to use sound clinical judgement to solve complex situation. • Ability to work as a member of the team
Desirable criteria
  • Continence specialist Courses Continence Assessment Mentorship qualification
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills. Teaching skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1 years post registration
  • Knowledge of current practice in the management of continence of products that are supplied to clients
  • Experience of Lone Working in the community
  • Experience of carrying out continence assessment
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate evidence based continence care following a needs- based assessment
  • Have worked in a continence promotion field Willingness to increase and improve learning and knowledge
