Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work in an innovative trauma-informed team, who are committed to promoting a culture of co-production with the people using the service and proactively addressing the experiences of marginalised groups in the criminal justice system.  The Inclusion and Involvement service (I&I) was co-developed in partnership with service users and Probation Service London (PSL) in line with desistance principles as part of the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway providing services to men and women with complex psychological difficulties and serious offending histories.

The Inclusion and Involvement team (I&I) focus on two overlapping areas. The first is meeting the social inclusion needs of people returning to the community from custody. The second area I&I focus on is service user involvement. This is the commitment to practice in a way that keeps service user voices and experience central to decisions and practice in how the service operates.

This full time position will focus on men’s Pathway. Therefore, we are strongly encouraging male applicants to apply. The post holders will also need to pass both DBS and Probation Level Vetting as a condition of the role. 

Main duties of the job

· Providing and receiving highly complex, highly sensitive or highly contentious information, where developed persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or re-assurance skills are required. This may be because agreement or co-operation is required or because there are barriers to understanding.

· To build effective, non-coercive relationships with local service users, professionals, and community groups and to develop a positive beneficial channel of two-way communication.

· To understand pathway plans and have a knowledge of community services in order to understand procedures and practises as well as developing alternative or additional procedures and standards for improving quality.

· Understand statutory services, organisation and funding, current service pressures and key performance requirements.

· Provide specialised advice concerning the care of, and development of services, for all people who could use relevant Trust services.

· To lead on Lived Experience expertise to provide the best quality of care.

· Ensuring that locality premises are responsive to the reception, treatment and care of people from all sections of the community.

· Occasional exposure to highly distressing or highly emotional circumstances for example discussing issues of service delivery with service users and managing this in a group setting as well as on an individual level.

Education / Qualification / Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree or has gained equivalent level of work experience.
  • A willingness to undertake further training and/or qualifications.
Desirable criteria
  • Further education/training in the areas of user and/or carer involvement
  • Training in management or previous experience of supervising staff

Experience

Essential criteria
  • The ability to demonstrate sound practical experience and understanding of current issues and challenges.
  • Experience of working with health agencies
  • Experience of devising and delivering training to adults
  • Experience of supervising and guiding the work of others
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with people in lived experience roles.
  • Personal experience of mental health problems or caring for someone with mental health problems.
  • Previous experience of Quality Improvement
  • Experience of partnership working with third sector agencies or organisations.
  • Experience of training Lived Experience Practitioners
  • Experience of working with people with people in the criminal justice system

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel across London to various localities.
  • Ability to provide clear advice, support and guidance to a wide range of people including service users and carers.
  • Ability to work with, train, support and coordinate lived experience practitioners
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, under
  • Ability to write, adapt and improve training materials for lived experience practitioners.
