Job overview
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well established community mental health team in an CQC rated Outstanding Trust. You will join the 7 wte other consultants already leading a well-resourced MDT including trainees and specialty doctors working across the primary and secondary community services. You will have a range of community responsibilities within the service providing a holistic and assertive service for working age adults with severe mental illness. The team is based at a community clinic which houses all our Neighbourhood Teams as well as the Early Intervention and an Early Detection of Psychosis Service. It is about 5 minutes walk away from the inpatient unit located at Homerton Hospital; and 5 minutes away from bustling Chatsworth Road, with its vibrant cafés and shops. The service base is very central to the borough with good bus and overground connections.
Main duties of the job
There is 0.6FTE post made available to cover for maternity leave.
The consultant psychiatrist provides input and clinical leadership to the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team. They lead the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team with a team of a band 7 senior worker (senior nurse of social worker), band 5 community connector (employed by the voluntary and community sector), a band 3 support worker, as well as access to an occupational therapist, psychologist, band 6 assessment worker, and peer-support worker. There is a band 8 team manager for 4 Neighbourhood Teams. The most recent addition to these are ARRS workers, which are band 7 posts employed by ELFT and working across GP surgeries and Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams. The consultant has a significant role in providing advice and training to GPs with the aim of increasing the skills and knowledge of GPs in the management of common mental health presentations.
The Neighbourhood Recovery Service has two sub-teams (East and West), led by 4 Band 7 senior practitioners, and 1 Band 8 operational lead. We are proud of the work we have done moving towards recovery-oriented care in the community and development of a primary care mental health offer which supports the recovery service in managing workload effectively.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
- Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT).
- Membership of the Royal College Of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with RCPsych Guidelines)
- With or eligible for Approved Clinician status (MHA, 2007)
Desirable criteria
- Higher Degree in relevant area
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatrist at ST4-6 or Consultant level in the last three years
- Experience and knowledge of psychopharmacology.
- Experience of working in adult psychiatry services in the community
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
- Understanding of the social aspects relevant to psychiatry
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge & experience of recovery-informed service delivery and working with patients as experts by experience
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and provide leadership to the team
- Expertise in risk assessment and the use of evidence based interventions for the treatment of psychosis, mood disorders and co-morbidities

Teaching

- Experience in teaching junior staff
