Highly Specialist CAMHS Practitioner/MHST Supervisor

NHS AfC: Band 8a

ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental and health care, innovation and improvement. So it is a very exciting time for you to come and work for us. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an experienced CAMHS practitioner to provide clinical supervision to practitioners in the Tower Hamlets Education Well-being Service (THEWS).

THEWS is a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) established following the government Green Paper: Transforming Children & Young People’s Mental Health Provision. The service has undergone recent expansion.

THEWS is part of the Tower Hamlets Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). This service is based in a newly refurbished office in the vibrant borough of Whitechapel.

The three core functions of a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) are:

1.         Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people (CYP) with mild-to-moderate mental health problems.

2.         Supporting the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce, develop and deliver the whole school/college approach.

3.         Giving timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help CYP to get the right support and stay in education.

The service embraces continual improvement and wellbeing of the staff and has a high degree of enthusiasm for quality improvement and working together with partner agencies to provide the highest quality service to the population we serve.

Main duties of the job

This role involves supporting and developing the abilities of practitioners to deliver CBT-informed interventions for mild to moderate anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, OCD and behaviour difficulties to parents and young people in secondary and primary schools.

The role as clinical supervisor, involves overseeing the assessments, formulations and intervention plans for the parents, children and young people the practitioners work with; holding in mind a wider range of therapeutic modalities (e.g. systemic), in order to maximise outcomes.

This role also involves ensuring that the recording and reporting of clinical work by practitioners is consistent with the policies and protocols of the NHS and Trust, and that clinical and goal-based outcome measures are being used as required by MHSTs.

Please note that this is a supervisory post and will not involve direct work with children and young people.
