Clinical Practice Lead

Band 6

ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental and health care, innovation and improvement. So it is a very exciting time for you to come and work for us. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity  for an experienced RMN to join the Mother & Baby Unit Tea.  You should have a willingness to work towards developing your understanding of this specialist field and of infant care and development whilst working within a multidisciplinary team.

The East London Mother and Baby Unit is a specialist service that aims to provide mental health care for mothers and support in the care of their infants. The unit provides an integrated approach to care planning and promotes recovery.

We provide care and treatment for women with a pre-existing mental illness who suffer a relapse during pregnancy or after giving birth, such as bi-polar affective disorder, schizophrenia, recurrent depressive disorder, severe anxiety disorder and schizo-affective disorder

Women who develop an acute mental illness such as puerperal psychosis or depression during or after pregnancy

Women who are at significant risk of becoming unwell in the perinatal period (prophylactic admissions) who have established diagnosis of mental illness and are already known to mental health services – referrals will be considered from 32 weeks gestation.

The aim of the unit is to ensure that all women who have young infants and who require admission can remain with their baby, enabling the special bond between mother and baby to be unbroken at a critical time in the life of a young family.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Practice Leads will support the Clinical Nurse Manager with 24-hour operational responsibility and accountability for the provision and management of high quality nursing care and for the treatment of service users within the inpatient service area.

You will be required to support developing the service and nursing team, support care delivery and work with service users and staff to ensure the provision of practices that respond effectively to both individual and service need.

There is an expectation that the post holder will contribute to the wider unit at City and Hackney and may at times be rostered to work on other acute wards locally; this will include providing cover for the Duty Senior Nurse role. The post holder will be required to undergo PMVA training.
