Occupational Therapist

We are looking to hire an Occupational Therapist to join our team. The successful candidate will provide occupational therapy assessments and treatment services for clients admitted to the adult inpatient wards at Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health (TMCMH). This role involves collaborating closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team and the OT team to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to community care.

Main duties of the job

To undertake Occupational Therapy assessments, treatments and evaluations of Adult mental health patients in Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health and community - on one to one and group basis.

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • State Registration

  • Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapy

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage a clinical caseload
  • Good interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed with clients.
  • Clinical reasoning skills to assess clients needs (including risk assessment) and guide interventions.
  • Ability to apply specialist skills in individual and group based OT assessments, interventions and evaluations with supervision.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate a range of complex activities in relation to clinical work.
  • Ability to communicate with OT staff and other professionals
  • Awareness of potential hazards including frequent verbal aggression and risk of physical aggression in settings such as the clients home, community venues, public transport etc.) whilst ensuring safety of self, client and members of the public.
  • Ability to liase with other services, statutory and non-statutory around clinical issues.
  • Word-processing/IT skills
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • . Ability to reflect on and critically appraise own performance

  • Ability to manage frequent distressing clinical interactions with clients who have serious mental health problems.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • The needs and rights of services users and/or carers in planning and service development iology
  • Applied social, health and medical sciences required for the practice of Occupational Therapy including psychology, anatomy, physiology and soc
  • Applied psychological perspectives relevant to OT in mental health including behavioural, cognitive, psychoanalytic and humanistic perspectives
  • The theory and practice of occupational therapy including occupational science and holistic models of OT practice
  • Theoretical knowledge of holistic models of OT practice and skills in group work, teaching and counselling
  • Specialist clinical skills in order to carry out OT interventions
  • The impact of mental health difficulties upon occupational functioning (self-care, productivity and leisure) and performance components (i.e. inter and intra personal, cognitive, physical)
Desirable criteria
  • Current National Guidelines e.g CPA, NSF and their application
  • Research and auditing
  • Risk assessment issues and its application to practice
