Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated senior CAMHS clinician with a passion for working with young people and their families to lead on the development and coordination of our group intervention programme in Newham CAMHS.

This is a recently established role aligned with the strategic intentions for CAMHS and partnership working for children, young people and families in Newham.

As a group therapy coordinator for Newham CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), you will be responsible for the management and oversight of the group therapy programme for children, adolescents experiencing mental health challenges and their families and carers. You will work closely with all the multidisciplinary teams and the participation programme within Newham CAMHS and the wider network of community organisations including schools, social care, community paediatric health and youth justice.

The post holder will maintain and continue to develop a regular programme of therapeutic groups incorporating clinical guidelines whilst also being creative and innovative in response to local diversity and specific challenges unique to Newham, a borough experiencing significant socio-economic deprivation. Understanding and responding to the specific health and access needs for the diverse Newham population is an essential component.

Main duties of the job

Newham CAMHS is working across the community and embedded within education and other agencies. A key part of our strategy is to ensure we are reaching out and sharing skills and interventions with community partners, professionals, young people and families. Developing a group programme incorporating other locations and facilitators including peer support workers will also be a vital part of this role.

Your responsibilities will include assessing the needs of individuals and groups, developing appropriate group therapy programmes, coordinating schedules and logistics, recruiting clinicians form the within CAMHS to run groups, leading and facilitating group sessions, and evaluating the effectiveness of the therapy. You will coordinate a provision of training, CPD, supervision, guidance, and structure to the whole service for the maintenance of a comprehensive group programme.

You will also be tasked with care coordination of a clinical caseload within the Emotional and Behavioural Team (E&B). The E+B Team provide a CAMHS service for young people with a wide variety of mood and anxiety problems and difficulties with managing behavioural expectations. The role involves providing comprehensive psycho-social assessment and evidence based treatment. There will also be an expectation to be carry out duty tasks including risk assessments and urgent or emergency assessments in response to crisis presentations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Newham CAMHS is a large and vibrant specialist child and adolescent mental health service with a reputation for innovation and flexibility in meeting the complex mental health support needs of Newham’s children, young people and families. It is centrally located on one site in Plaistow, Newham, and provides an extensive and growing range of services including multi-disciplinary specialist teams such as the Emotional & Behavioural Teams, Adolescent Mental Health Team, Paediatric Liaison Team, Neurodevelopmental Team, Front Door Team and Mental Health Support Teams for schools. There is a broad spectrum of disciplines and a long tradition of effective multidisciplinary and interagency working. The service undertakes considerable outreach and consultation work and training.

Education, Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A qualification in Child Psychotherapy, Clinical Psychology, Family Therapy, Nursing, Creative Therapies, Counselling Psychology, Social Work or other equivalent profession Clinical Psychology Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) Registration with HPC Family Therapy Qualification in appropriate mental health/social welfare profession such as Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Nursing or Counselling Masters or Doctoral level qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy or AFT agreed equivalent UKCP Registered Child Psychotherapy Honours degree. Postgraduate Diploma/MA in Psychoanalytical Observational Studies or recognised equivalent. Masters in Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy: Child and Adolescent. Registered member of ACP Nursing Mental Health Nurse Level 1 (RN3, RNMH in sub part 1 of the NMC Register) ENB 998 or equivalent Relevant post-graduate qualification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Substance mis-use or equivalent (e.g. ENB 603) Counselling Psychology Postgraduate Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or its equivalent. Registration with HPC Arts Therapies Masters (or equivalent) in Arts Therapies Registration with the HCPC (or in the case of Dance Movement Psychotherapists registration with ADMPUK)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working therapeutically with children and young people, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. Knowledge and experience with working with delivering therapeutic groups in CAMHS. Experience in contributing to effective working within a multi-disciplinary team setting Experience/knowledge of working in a multi-ethnic community and of working with interpreters. Experience of CAMHS risk assessment and risk management Experience of developing and delivering specialist training programmes and/ or supervision of other staff groups. Experience of participating in audit, evaluation and research activities. Experience of contributing to policy and service development. Experience of providing clinical and professional leadership to other qualified and non-qualified members of the profession.
