Job overview

Consultant position in advanced echocardiography including general Paediatric Cardiology on call.

 

We are looking for a consultant experienced in Paediatric Echocardiography and Cardiovascular Imaging in children. The postholder will be expected to perform, analyse and report echocardiograms for children (from newborn to teen age) with large variety of heart conditions. This includes conventional transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography as well as clinical application of modern echocardiographic imaging modalities such as 3D echocardiography, tissue deformation imaging. 

The successful candidate will be expected to independently run paediatric cardiology clinics, advanced echocardiography clinics and participate in the consultant on call rota. They will join joint cardiac and surgical weekly meeting and there is the opportunity to join a large variety of educational meetings. They will run or be on evolved in clinical research.

Liaison with the GOSH cardiac services team will be facilitated by attendance at the weekly Joint Cardiac Conference, and the weekly cardiac unit Clinical Governance meeting.

 

GOSH is a Postgraduate Teaching Hospital. National trainees in Paediatric Cardiology, senior trainees or established specialist consultants may be attached for varying periods of time for advanced teaching.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential criteria
  • GMC specialist registration with a Licence to Practice (obtained by designated start date)
  • MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
  • CCT/CCST in Speciality (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree – PhD, MD or equivalent
  • Formal teaching qualification

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in paediatric cardiology and fetal cardiology with sufficient knowledge to counsel patients after a diagnosis of complex CHD
  • Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team
  • Advanced skills in congenital echocardiography
  • Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes
  • Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area
  • Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials
  • Experience of working in shared care clinics and clinical networks
  • Experience of clinical leadership or management
