Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a psychologist to join our Clinical Simulation team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a dynamic, multi-professional team to support the delivery of healthcare simulation within and beyond Great Ormond Street Hospital. The post-holder will occupy an integral part of the Clinical Simulation Centre (CSC) team, which forms part of the GOSH Learning Academy (GLA). The successful applicant will assist the development, delivery and evaluation of contemporary simulation-based initiatives to support workforce development, quality improvement, and enhancement of patient safety and experience. 



Main duties of the job

  • To contribute to the GOSH Learning Academy ConnectED strategy via the development, delivery, and evaluation of simulation education
  • Integrate psychology-led approaches and therapeutic principles within simulation practice to support workforce development
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the field of psychology- contributing to advances in simulation-based education
  •   Work to maintain own knowledge, skills and credibility, demonstrating high standards of expertise
  •  Work alongside multi-professional colleagues to understand the needs of different professions/areas of practice
  • Lead, co-ordinate and deliver simulation-based education based on educational need- with particular focus on human factors and non-technical skills training
  • Contribute to mechanisms for sharing CSC activity and opportunities for learning, taking a leadership role where these align to psychology
  • Utilise, develop and review tools to audit and evaluate educational and professional practice an education programmes/materials
  • Maintain a good working relationship with academic and Simulation Network partners, professional bodies and organisations
  • Maintain own awareness of current clinical and professional issues
  • Act as a resource for relevant internal and external staff in developing career pathways, coaching and mentoring as applicable to simulation
  • Be accountable for one’s own actions in accordance with the code of professional conduct

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

  • British Psychological Society-accredited degree in Psychology or accredited conversion course

  • Doctoral-level qualification or equivalent postgraduate training in psychology.

  • Registration with Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist
  • Professional Qualification in Education

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of facilitating simulation
  • Knowledge of basic educational principles and their applications within clinical settings

  • Experience of delivering education in a healthcare setting

  • Experience of developing educational curriculum and programmes
  • Peer-reviewed publications
  • Presentation of work at national or international level
