Job overview
We have a very exciting opportunity for a self starting Shift Maintenance Lead with a drive to see works through to completion.
This post is key to the effective implementation of our reactive maintenance services across the Trust.
You will be part of a close knit, multi skilled team on a rotating shift pattern, tackling the most technical challenges on site.
Working on both breakdowns and PPMs on the infrastructure across the Trust, you will be at the forefront of the estates team.
Main duties of the job
- Provide direct leadership to Shift Engineers, allocating work, prioritising tasks, and monitoring performance throughout the shift.
- Check, evaluate, and sign off work carried out by shift technicians, ensuring safe and compliant completion
- Act as the senior technical point of contact during the shift, managing
incidents, escalations, and decision-making - Undertake complex fault diagnosis on critical engineering systems using root cause analysis and investigative techniques
- Carry out PPMs, repairs, and minor installation works across electrical, mechanical and fabric systems
- Oversee and coordinate specialist or high-risk tasks, including isolations, shutdowns, and emergency works
- Oversee and carry out specialist work on power, lighting, nurse call, fire alarms, intruder alarms, and associated control systems.
- Supervise safe switching and activation of power changeover systems, generators, UPS, and panel isolations
- Ensure safe and effective maintenance of hot water, steam, chilled water, ventilation, AC systems, medical air and vacuum plant (with training).
- Lead the shift in using CAFM for receiving, updating, and completing all planned and reactive task

- Recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant maintenance, engineering, building services field
- City & Guilds 2365, 2357 Level 3 and NVQ 2356 AM2 City and Guilds 2330 Level 3 in Electrical Installation and NVQ 2356 and AM2 City and Guilds 236/2360 In Electrical Installations part 1&2 City & Guilds 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS:7671:2018) preferable with A2 amendment
Desirable criteria
- Further qualifications gained in trade (BTEC Level 3, ACS Gas Qualifications, F Gas certification, BEng in relevant discipline)
- CP Training Certificates

Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Working in an Acute Healthcare environment, Public Sector, or complex estates.
- Working as a lead shift engineer / maintenance crafts person
- Working in a small shift team
- Working in a customer focused services
Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, large estate environment
- Good communication skills
- Ability to investigate the faults and plant failures.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to use Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) Systems and knowledge of advanced CAFM functionality
Applicant requirements
