We are excited to advertise this unique fixed-term role for a senior clinical fellow (ST6+ or equivalent) to join the Paediatric Gastroenterology services at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This post is subject to regular appraisal and a probationary period. There may be an opportunity to extend this beyond the fixed term, as part of the applicant’s clinical appraisal and departmental requirements.
These appointments provide comprehensive training in Paediatric Gastroenterology and are suitable for candidates with at least 5 years of Paediatric experience at a post-graduate level. Candidates should be able to demonstrate previous experience in paediatric gastroenterology.
The post will be undertaken in the unique, dynamic and supportive environment of the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Primary Role as Clinical Fellow in GI Allergy and Mucosal Immunology
The post-holder, in collaboration with the named consultant, will predominantly be involved in the clinical management for children with Gastro-intestinal Allergy such as patients with Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) and other eosinophilic gastro-intestinal diseases, delayed and immediate food allergies and multi-system allergic diseases. They will also supporting other aspects of the mucosal immunology unit, including the inflammatory bowel diseases service.
This will involve managing admissions within Gastroenterology.
- Providing medical review and the on-going management of these patients.
- Coordinating and reviewing patients through both inpatient, day admissions or urgent reviews
- Twice weekly Outpatient clinics in GI Allergy, with at around 6 clinics in IBD per 6 months
- Weekly GI Allergy multi-disciplinary team meetings
- Cross cover with the IBD fellow, when away on leave

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

- Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice (or application in process) or IELTS Certificate with an overall score of 7.5 or Occupational English Test (medicine version) with a minimum score of ‘B’ in each domain
- MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
- Paediatric experience (including gastroenterology) for more than 5 years, at post-graduate level (doctor), including training in paediatric resuscitation (APLS or equivalent)
- Paediatric experience in paediatric gastroenterology for more than 2 year, at post-graduate level (doctor)
- Understanding of the spectrum of GI Allergic Diseases and IBD
- Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context

- Higher degree – MSc, MPhil related discipline
- Experience of diagnostic endoscopy
Experience/Knowledge

- Understanding of principles of clinical governance
- Broad knowledge of paediatric medicine
- Be confident in the management of paediatric emergency, for a range of medical specialities
- Commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publications

- Experience of teaching and presenting
- Experience of audit activities

- Published research in peer reviewed journals, with evidence of experience in developing research, audit or improvement projects
