Locum Consultant with interest in Cleft Orthodontics (5 PAs)

We are seeking a 5 PA Locum Consultant Orthodontist, with experience in the management of patients with cleft lip and palate and craniofacial conditions, to cover a gap in service provision within the Orthodontic department.

The Post will start ASAP. 

GOSH is a postgraduate teaching hospital, linked with the Institute of Child Health (ICH). The Trust has 368 beds and provides a comprehensive range of paediatric specialties for tertiary level care. The patient population consists of over 20,000 inpatients per annum and 84,000 outpatients.

Provision of a full range of orthodontic treatment for patients predominantly in the North Thames Cleft service. In addition, it is expected that the orthodontist will contribute to clinical and educational teaching for orthodontic post ccst SpR’s within the department, other members of the extended team and for post graduate orthodontic trainees. Involvement with clinical audit and research will be integral to the post.

Specific Clinical Duties

 

       To provide orthodontic treatment for patients of the North Thames Cleft Lip and Palate Service and other specialties.

       Treatment planning within the multidisciplinary team, with particular liaison with maxillofacial surgical, plastic surgical, speech and language and paediatric dental colleagues.

       Collection of relevant records for audit and research.

       Provision of consultant cover within the department on a rota basis.

       Supervision of orthodontic care by trainees as required.

       Attainment of the necessary continuing medical education and professional development criteria.

       The post holder will be expected to work closely with other members of the maxillofacial and dental team and other key professionals within the cleft team.

       May be required to attend departmental meetings at GOSH and Broomfield on times outside those specified in the job plan

       May be required to attend clinical sessions at Broomfield Hospital, MSE Trust

Education, Training & Qualifications

  • Eligible for or has full GDC Registration
  • A BDS or Equivalent
  • Eligible for or already on the GDC specailty Register for orthodontics
  • Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum three year training programme in Orthodontics, or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum two year training in a post-CCST (Completion of Certificate of Speciality Training) which follows on from the pre-CCST training period of three years, or within 3 months of completion, or equivalent for other European Economic Area (EEA) Nationals or non EU nationals
  • Evidence of training in Cleft Orthodontics

Experience/Knowledge

  • Extensive experience in Cleft Orthodontics
  • Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team, including that related to cleft orthodontics
  • Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes
  • Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area
  • Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects.
  • Leadership in the development of clinical services and in pressurised environments
  • Clinical guideline development , developing outcome measures and benchmarking and understanding of outcome measures in cleft orthodontics

  • Appraisal training, clinical management experience and service development
  • Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials
  • Experience of working in shared care clinics and clinical networks
  • Experience of clinical leadership or management
