We have an exciting post available at the Tic Service, Great Ormond Street Hospital: 

Permanent Contract Band 8a Senior Clinical Psychologist: 0.4wte

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Tic Service as a clinical psychologist. The postholder will primarily be based in the multidisciplinary team that provides assessment and treatment to children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental disorders (including Tourette syndrome and functional tics) alongside commonly co-occurring neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders. 

Supervision and line management is provided by a principal clinical psychologist.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

  • 1st class Honours degree in Psychology or 2.1 Hons Psychology and post-graduate qualification/training (e.g. MSc) in neuropsychology or related subject
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS/HCPC, including clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Eligibility for Chartered status and membership of the Division of Clinical Psychology
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Post–doctoral training and recorded CPD experience
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.

  • Further qualifications in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice, particularly CBT or neuropsychology
  • Experience of working with children with tic disorders.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist at specialist level
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts and of working in a multicultural framework
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people and child protection.
  • Experience of supervising assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists, qualified staff and/or other professionals

  • Experience of presenting psychology to multidisciplinary audiences at conferences or other educational settings.
  • Experience and expertise in working with children who have neurodevelopmental conditions.

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological and cognitive assessment, intervention and management.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their carers, and other professionals.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations and challenging behaviours.
  • Evidence of skilled and productive multidisciplinary team working
