Locum Consultant Paediatric Neuroradiologist

Job overview
This position is a maternity cover for a Consultant Paediatric Neuroradiologist role within the Radiology service under the "Core Clinical Services" division for a period of 12-months. The postholder will be part of a specialised pediatric neuroradiology team and will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (including pediatric neuroscience, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric ENT, pediatric neurogenetic specialists) to provide and advance care for patients accessing neurodiagnostic services.
The responsibilities include acute and elective neuroradiology reporting as part of the broader Neuro Radiology service which will include multidisciplinary team meetings, teaching and training of junior staff and clinical research possibilities.
The role requires supporting existing neuroradiology team of 6 consultants and on-call commitment for neuroradiology services, and the postholder will contribute to the performance, governance, and development agendas of the Core Clinical Services division.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be part of a team of six neuroradiologists who provide a high end complex diagnostic neuroradiology service for the Trust and the region, and will be expected to have all the skills required to perform the core aspects of this service.
- The core clinical activity of the post will be the preparation of reports on the neuroradiological examinations performed within the Trust as well as providing second opinions on such cases referred to the Neuroradiology service from outside the Trust. Another key aspect of the service will be covering the intraoperative MRI service.
- The post holder will be required to work closely with neuroradiological colleagues to provide timely and accurate reports, taking personal responsibility to maximise the diagnostic efficiency and quality of neuroradiological examinations through supervision of neuroimaging, guidance, advice and training of all related medical and non-medical staff.
- The position will involve CT and MRI Neuro reporting sessions (with a job plan of 8.0 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) PAs and 2.0 Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) PAs.
- There is a system of internal cover which operates in the department and the internal cover sessions will involve the same modalities as the other designated DCC sessions (see Appendix 1 for specimen job plan).

- MDT meetings: A consultant neuroradiologist is required to be present at the meetings listed below and the chairing is rotational and organised through an internal rota system.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration or evidence of eligibility for full GMC registration.
- MBBS, MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
- On specialist register for Radiology (CCT or equivalent), or within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview
- Accredited to and Fellow of The Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent

- Higher degree – PhD, MD or equivalent

- Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area
- Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects
- Completion of subspecialty training in Neuroradiology or equivalent
