St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.

Job overview
This is a replacement post for a Clinical Fellow in CMR (whole-time) based at Royal Brompton site of the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for delivery of high-quality clinical care for patients being seen through the CMR Unit.

Main duties of the job
1. To assist in the running of the clinical CMR service under the direction of the Director, including being fully trained in CMR safety and the delivery of a safe NHS service, and being present at CMR scans.
2. Preparing preliminary reports on patient scans for consultant approval
3. To maintain a high standard of patient care at all times.
4. To liaise with the Chief Technologist in CMR with regard to clinical service issues.
5. To liaise with the physics and clinical staff to ensure the safe operation of all imaging equipment in the CMR Unit.
6. To ensure appropriate infection control measures are utilised when necessary. Paying particular attention to personal protection as well as the management of equipment and linens.
7. To observe safety regulations with regard to the Local Rules for CMR and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
8. If necessary, to remove property from a patient, for example to take any metal object or jewellery off for a CMR scan and ensure the patient’s property is looked after and returned to them at the completion of the procedure.
9. To clear up after spills in accordance with the Trust’s infection control policy.
10. The post holder will attend the clinical departmental meetings.
11. Other duties in the CMR unit will be under the guidance of the Director.
Working for our organisation
The Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Unit has pioneered contributions in the field over 30 years. The CMR Unit is an international referral centre, performing ~10,000 clinical cardiovascular CMR studies per year, as well as publishing 40-60 research papers annually. The ~30 dedicated staff have extensive experience is this field allowing excellence in clinical practice, teaching and research. There are 5 CMR scanners which are: Two Siemens Sola1.5T scanners, a Siemens Avanto-Fit 1.5T scanner, a Siemens Vida 3T scanner, and a state-of-the-art Siemens Cima scanner for research. The CMR Unit is directed by Prof Dudley Pennell, and there are 14 additional consultants: Prof Raad Mohiaddin, Dr Sanjay Prasad, Dr Francisco Alpendurada, Dr John Baksi, Dr Sonya Babu-Narayan, Dr Cemil Izgi, Dr Sabiha Gati, Dr Sylvia Krupickova, Dr Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci, Dr Zohya Khalique, Dr Brian Halliday, Dr Amrit Lota and Dr Sarah Ghonim. There are 7 clinical fellows in training, and national and international trainees. The chief technologist is Emma Hay who leads a team of 12 technologists to run the clinical service. Research and support staff includes physicists, engineers, nurses, and administrative staff. The post’s main duties at Royal Brompton will be to be trained in CMR and contribute to the clinical CMR service.
