The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Specialist in Allergy to join our team.  The Allergy department is well established and holds specialist accreditation status with the RCP IQAS for the provision of allergy services among the nine centres in the UK.  Homerton Hospital is a GMC recognised training centre for Allergy and Immunology speciality training. 

The adult Allergy service at Homerton Healthcare provides a wide range of allergy diagnostic and therapeutic services. Patient consultation takes place in consultation rooms within the main outpatient department, and Allergy Day Care Unit. The department provides this service for the residents of City and Hackney and a number of neighbouring boroughs. The service caters for general allergy related problems and also specialises in a number of sub-specialities, including provision of a tertiary drug patch testing service.

Main duties of the job

The main activities across the service are as follow;

  • Allergy new patients clinics
  • Allergen immunotherapy clinics facility
  • Food challenge clinics
  • Drug challenge clinics (optional)
  • Severe asthma/anti IgE clinic
  • Skin prick tests for a variety of allergens
  • Full range of lung function tests
  • A fully comprehensive immunology lab

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or other primary medical qualification.
  • GMC full registration with a licence to practise.
  • On GMC specialist register for Allergy or Clinical Immunology OR Proposed CCT/CESR date must be within 6 months of interview date.
  • Should hold the MRCP (UK) or an equivalent qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g. MD, PhD)

Relevant experience in speciality

Essential criteria
  • Completion of formal accredited allergy or immunology specialist training programme (minimum 4 years WTE duration).

Clinical skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to practice independently in allergy and offer expert clinical opinion on a range of clinical allergy problems. Excellent clinical skills

Leadership and professionalism

Essential criteria
  • Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond appropriately to service need
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist interest, i.e. in food allergy, immunotherapy or severe chronic urticaria.

Management skills

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of the overall business environment in which the hospital operates Understanding of the importance of good clinical coding
Desirable criteria
  • Management of team or programme or project; management qualification

Teaching & training

Essential criteria
  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching
