Main duties of the job

The unit wishes to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow, nearing completion of, or has completed, higher surgical training in General Surgery. The post holder should be adequately trained in basic laparoscopic procedures. The post holder will be responsible for ward rounds of all patients - bariatric & general surgery. The post holder will also be expected to prep patients to help with the smooth running of MDT.

The department of surgery at Homerton Hospital is a friendly department with an emphasis on team work and patient care. The structure of the department is towards a firm grounding in general surgery with specialisation in gastro-intestinal surgery and breast surgery. There is no vascular surgery on site. The gastro-intestinal surgery is divided between upper GI and lower GI surgery. There is also breast surgery on site. There are good training opportunities in elective as well as emergency operative surgery and endoscopy. There is also a busy teaching programme and good support for research.

The teaching programme includes gastroenterology x-ray conference and journal club. The teaching is closely involved with the gastroenterologists encouraging experience in the multidisciplinary management of both benign and malignant disease.
