Job overview
The post will be based in the department of Haematology. There will be an average of 8 PAs of direct clinical care, with an additional 1 PA for out of hours work and daytime clinical activities. 2 PA’s are allocated for supporting professional activities. As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality, safe health care to patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following:
- the provision of a first class service
- effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
- active involvement in undergraduate and post graduate teaching and training
- undertaking all work in accordance with trust policies and procedures including the Code of Behaviour
- conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of Homerton’s business plans
- contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development

Qualifications & Higher Qualifications
Essential criteria
- On GMC’s specialist register relevant to the post or a Specialist Registrar who is within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC’s specialist register by date of interview
- MRCP (or equivalent)
- FRCPath (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g. MD, PhD)
Relevant experience in speciality/sub speciality
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience in Haematology
- Experience in the care and management of patients with haemoglobinopathies
Desirable criteria
- Experience in the provision of a blood transfusion service
Clinical skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent clinical skills in Haematology including haemoglobinopathies
Desirable criteria
- Computer skills course/certificate
Leadership and professionalism
Essential criteria
- Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond appropriately to service need
Desirable criteria
- Familiar with current structure of the health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Management skills

- Awareness of the overall business environment in which the hospital operates
