An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band a Staff Nurse/ODP to join the team as theatre coordinator in our Day Surgery Theatres. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, broad skilled, dynamic and skilled individual to join the team in Theatres at Homerton. 

The applicant must have an interest in the Day Surgery pathway, be an excellent communicator with good leadership skills. With the opening of two new theatres in our Day Surgery Unit and the introduction of running HVLC lists we need someone who is flexible and able to contribute to the delivery of high standard care for patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Daily coordinate day surgery theatre lists, ensuring safe staffing and appropriate skill mix.
  • Liaise with surgeons, anaesthetists, ward teams, recovery, CSSD and other stakeholders to optimise patient flow through the department and minimise delays. 
  • Ensure theatres are appropriately prepared, equipped and ready for the day and the following day. 
  • Monitor and audit daily briefings, safety huddles and debriefs occur. 
  • Ensure patients receive safe, dignified, patient centres peri-operative care. 
  • Provide visible leadership and act as an expert clinical resource within the day surgery department.

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Relevant post registration specialist course.
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Assessor/ mentorship.
  • Leadership course/ program.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience within the theatre environment.
  • Experience coordinating or leading a clinical area or shift.
  • Experience supervising junior staff or students.
  • Experience responding to clinical incidents and escalating concerns.
  • In depth knowledge of perioperative standards, patient safety, infection control, and safeguarding.
  • Knowledge of Trust policies and CQC requirements.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working in Day Surgery or high turnover elective settings.
  • Experience contributing to audits, QI projects, or service redesign.
