Job overview
In response to increasing demand being placed on specialist in-house apheresis services the team are being remodeled to meet the demands of the expanding service. As a result of this there is now a newly created permanent Band 6 position that has become available.
The Clinical Haematology serviceruns one of the largest blood and marrow transplant programmes (allogeneic and autologous) in Europe, successfully achieving and maintaining JACIE accreditation status, while operating as specialist tertiary centre. There are a total of 54-58 haematology beds across three wards. There is also dedicated out-patient and day care facilities that incorporates ambulatory care and the apheresis service. We take pride in the fact that we have been able to maintain an in-house specialist apheresis service supported by on-site dedicated cellular therapy laboratory facilities.
Therapeutic apheresis is a highly specialist technology that provides a comprehensive range of treatment procedures that can involve the separation, removal and replacement of blood components and constituents. The expanded clinical application of this treatment modality in recent years has enabled patients with a wide variety of diseases to be to be treated; leukodepletion for blood cancers, plasma exchange for haematology and neurology patients, as well as, collection of cellular products/harvesting of donors to support the haematopoietic stem cell transplant programme.

- Experience as apheresis nurse Haematology/Cancer nursing background
- Previous experience with leading and developing teams (budget management, quality assurance, change management, service development and undertaking audits)
Desirable criteria
- Ongoing commitment to training
Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC : First level registration
- Haemato-oncology experience (to include HSCT)
- Chemotherapy certification
- Haemato-oncology experience (to include HSCT)
- Recognised post-registration training relevant to specialty – Apheresis certification
- Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
- Preceptorship/Supervisory experience
Desirable criteria
- Management certificate or equivalent experience
- Masters Level study or willingness to undertake
Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
- • Expert in therapeutic application of apheresis procedures and as operator
- • Expert in IV administration and venous access care
