Main duties of the job

  • Lead and manage fire safety training Trust-wide, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements across all sites.
  • Develop long-term fire safety training strategies aligned with the HTM 05-03 Part A.
  • Conduct regular fire safety training audits in accordance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 PLUS 05-03 Part A.
  • Integrate training needs assessments within the fire risk assessment process, maintaining adequate staffing of suitably trained individuals across departments.
  • Collaborate closely with the Fire Safety Manager on delivery of training programmes covering fire-fighting techniques, evacuation protocols, and use of fire safety equipment.
  • Champion innovation in fire safety education, continuously reviewing and enhancing our approach—especially within high-risk areas.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Experience gained within fire safety training management.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • The ability to understand, characteristics of fire and the science of fire safety training.
  • Practices, guidance, and legislation concerning fire safety in relation to health care premises.
  • Technical aspects of firefighting equipment, including Fire Alarm detection systems and structural fire precautions.
  • Registered with a recognised fire professional body i.e. Member of the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers or Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers
  • Evidence of continuing development
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified/experienced Training instructor.
  • Other relevant training delivery e.g. college courses, evening classes

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience gained undertaking in a large complex multi-site NHS organisation
  • Experience of working in teams and on own initiative with limited support, with an understanding of when to seek support
  • Experience of working in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 & HTM 05 series of guides
  • Experience of working with external bodies such as Fire and Rescue Services.
  • Demonstrable experience in problem solving in order to assist in developing robust evacuation plans and fire training strategies within the workplace, with significant experience gained in the process to ensure legal compliance in accordance with the various Acts of Parliament and Local by-laws required under health & safety an appreciation of the intricate language of legal documents etc.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • In-depth knowledge, of the regulatory reform order, Firecode and HTM 05.01, managing healthcare fire safety 05.02 guidance and support of functional provision in healthcare premises.
  • Undertaken fire safety training course.
  • Ability to continually monitor and improve fire safety training
  • Experience of development of fire safety training programmes and procedures.
  • Trained and experienced in staff training.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of clinical and operational requirements of Trust departments in order to plan and manage suitable fire safety training arrangements
