Main duties of the job

  • Safely transport patients, medical equipment, specimens, and supplies across hospital departments.
  • Respond to emergency calls and assist with urgent patient transfers.
  • Support infection control and safety procedures, ensuring a clean and secure environment.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams to maintain efficient hospital operations.
  • Provide a friendly, reassuring presence for patients and visitors during their hospital journey.

Essential criteria
  • Numeracy and literacy
  • General education to include Maths and English at GCSE level or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of customer service roles
  • An understanding of people’s equality, diversity and rights
Desirable criteria
  • Previous healthcare/NHS experience
  • Previous experience of portering.
  • Experience of Helpdesk communication and recording systems.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within domestic services, other hotel services or health care departments
  • Previous experience in a customer facing role
