Job overview
The Hammersmith HPB unit is now one of the largest in West London acting as a receiving centre for patients with
liver, pancreatic and/or biliary disorders from the region, the UK and worldwide. It is recognised as a world leader in innovation and clinical practice. It is part of Imperial College which was ranked third in Bio-Medical research world-wide.
Four HPB consultants along with clinical research fellows and Specialty Trainees (ST).
Academically, the unit has a sound record on research in gene therapy, genomic and stem cell therapy for patients
with chronic liver disease and radio frequency devices for the management of HPB malignancy.
The post will be for 12 months but may be extended
Main duties of the job
Clinical duties include participating in patients’ care and on call duties; attending out-patients, theatre sessions covering HPB patients.
The post holder will be required to cover activities of the HPB surgical team (ward rounds, clinics and theatre sessions), giving occasionally allocated time to assist with OG patients on ward, along with General Surgical on calls within the Hammersmith Hospital which also involves covering OG and Endocrine patients out of hours.
Monthly committee meetings, monthly operational meetings, ad hoc meetings.
Morning assembly every day, and weekly MDTMs.
Departmental grand round.
On call frequency, 1 in 8 non-resident (after 8pm).

Regular teaching programme on a weekly basis for SHOs and registrars in addition to ward teaching and MDTMs.

Essential criteria
- On GMC registered/ licensed Medical Practitioner
- Appropriate Royal College membership

- MD, PhD

Relevant Experience in Specialty/ Sub Specialty
Essential criteria
- HPB Cancer Surgery with vascular resection
Desirable criteria
- Experience in working in HPB multidisciplinary team managing both cancer and benign HPB cases
