Job overview

The Deputy DIPC will work with the Director for Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) to lead, manage and provide a proactive strategic infection prevention and control service ensuring that the Trust continually improves its performance in reducing healthcare-associated infections by developing systems that are evidence-based and grounded in best practice. As a professional role model and strong clinical leader you will demonstrate an excellent understanding of infection prevention and control issues, analytical thinking and ensuring that patients are placed at the centre of care delivery.

Our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team is recognised for its expertise and ability to support clinical and corporate services, which continues to be vital to the delivery of safe services. Due to internal promotion we are looking for a new Deputy Director for Infection Prevention and Control to join and lead the team.

Main duties of the job

  • You will have a recognised qualification in infection prevention and/or public health and have significant clinical practice in this field, with experience of leading an IPC team. You will need excellent interpersonal, organisational and leadership skills to take the IPC agenda forwards, and the ability to act as a role model in promoting the IPC principles across the Trust, influencing and improving the quality of care delivered to our patients.
  • You will need to be able to work autonomously, applying your expert knowledge in infection prevention and control, healthcare associated infection,  environmental hygiene including water, ventilation and decontamination services across a range of clinical settings.
  • You will need to have strong education and audit skills working with divisional management teams, site directors, and allied health professionals to ensure the application of all policies, procedures and guidelines and monitoring of standards in relation to IPC. The ability to develop effective working relationships and influence all members of the multidisciplinary teams is paramount to this rewarding role.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered healthcare professional with a statutory regulator e.g. GMC, NMC, GPhC etc.
  • First degree or equivalent professional, expert/specialist knowledge in IPC
  • Educated to master’s level, working toward this or comparable experience
Desirable criteria
  • PhD/Professional Doctorate or study at this level
  • PRINCE or other Project/Programme management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial senior experience at a senior clinical level leading and delivering services
  • Significant IPC experience
  • Extensive experience of effective partnership/multi agency/cross agency working in support of local and national strategy
  • Extensive experience of effective patient/public involvement
  • Extensive experience of policy development and implementation across a range of services
Desirable criteria
  • Complaints management and experience of the litigation process
  • Proven track record and have demonstrable formal research expertise, knowledge and skills
