Job overview

St Mary’s Hospital London is part of Imperial NHS trust and is situated centrally next to Paddington station, which has excellent transport links to London and its surrounding areas.

Manvers ward is a 33- bedded ward specializing in respiratory and acute medicine.

25 beds are dedicated to the care of respiratory patients, with both acute and chronic conditions.

This includes a dedicated 8- bed Acute Respiratory Unit, where we can care specifically for patients requiring Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV), tracheostomy care and use monitoring and blood gas analysis to ensure our patients have the support they need at the earliest opportunity. We have a nurse patient ratio of 1:2, making this a great place to work if you are looking to develop your acute respiratory skills.

A further 8 beds are designated for short stay acute medical patients. This area sees a high turnover of patients, in a dynamic and fast- paced environment.

All areas are supported by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists, working to help our patient receive only the highest standard of care.

The Manvers/ARU team is passionate about getting it right for patients and their families. In order to achieve this we are looking to appoint a passionate, enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic Band 6 Registered Nurse.  The successful candidate should have substantial Band 5 experience and be looking to develop their leadership skills during their first junior sister / charge nurse post.

In order to equip you with the correct knowledge, skills and attitude to become a competent and confident Band 6 Registered Nurse we will provide you with specialist training and support, respiratory courses and competencies. We will also help you develop your leadership skills and support you to attend bespoke courses.
Applicants must be NMC Registered RGN, have experience working within the specialty of respiratory medicine, have experience in teaching and mentoring, excellent communication skills and able to manage total patient care and work independently.

Main duties of the job

  •  The post holder will report directly to the ward matron/manager.
  •  Work as a part of the multidisciplinary team.
  •  Provide support and mentorship to Band 5 nurses, Health care assistants and student nurses.
