Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced GPhC-registered pharmacy technician to co-ordinate the provision of inpatient, homecare, and outpatient prescription services to our neurology patients primarily based at Charing Cross Hospital. 

Applicants will need excellent organisational & IT skills and be able to communicate effectively in English with patients, staff, and stakeholders.

The post-holder will be working closely with existing pharmacy teams, clinicians & clinical nurse specialists to ensure the safe delivery of medicines to patients both via homecare & through our outpatient pharmacy. They will primarily be responsible for the registration of new homecare patients, repeat prescription management, invoicing, and expenditure/usage reporting.

The post-holder will also participate in the delivery of medicines management services to our inpatient neurology wards.

Main duties of the job

  • Day-to-day co-ordination of the provision of medication to neurology patients via homecare & outpatient prescriptions
  • Entering information on to the pharmacy computer system and the accurate processing/issuing of homecare prescriptions
  • Ensuring accurate invoicing to the Trust for homecare services & accurate billing to the commissioners for services provided, including the maintenance of prescription & invoice databases
  • Provision of ward-based pharmacy technician services, including medicines management
  • Assisting with audit work related to the provision of homecare and ward services
  • Supporting patients with homecare-related queries
  • Maintaining good communication with homecare companies, patients, other healthcare professionals, and stakeholders

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship or equivalent recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC
  • Mandatory ongoing CPD portfolio as defined by the GPhC
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification (or to be achieved within 12 months of appointment to this position)
  • Practice Supervisor (P.S)
  • NVQ Assessor (A1)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of pharmacy computer systems
  • Experience of working with ‘one stop’ dispensing for inpatients
  • Solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice
Desirable criteria
  • At least two years of experience working in a hospital post-qualification as a pharmacy technician
  • Experience of training others
  • Experience working within homecare services

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good ability to use computer systems including MS Word and MS Excel
  • Experience of patient counselling
