Job overview

We have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietetic Assistant to join our forward thinking and friendly Nutrition and Dietetic Department.  We are a high profile service providing Nutrition & Dietetic services to Charing Cross, St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals. This Dietetic Assistant post will be based at Hammersmith Hospital.

This role will involve working 18.75 hours across 3 days per week.  You will be required to have excellent communication,   administrative, organisational and interpersonal skills to support the department’s dietetic service. 

If you have excellent communication and data inputting skills, have the ability to prioritise your workload, enjoy teamwork and can work under pressure; we look forward to receiving your application. Knowledge / experience in nutrition is not essential but would be advantages. 

Requests for Dietetic apprenticeship / HCPC registration hours are not guaranteed.

Activities will include completing patient related admin, updating spreadsheets, screening, assessing patients’ food and drink records or supporting quality improvement/audit/service evaluation work. All activities will be supervised by a registered Dietitian.

Administrative work will include home enteral tube feeding discharge work, data entry into databases and spread sheets for recording activity information; stock checking and ordering of nutritional products; updating patient literature; generating patient letters and reports, general administration tasks and routinely dealing with patient/staff enquires to the department either directly or by telephone.

The department supports robust continual professional development for all staff members. All successful candidates will complete competencies required for the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of commencement of employment.

Main duties of the job

To support and help the general running of the dietetic service in the management of oral nutrition support patients referred to the service under guidance and supervision from the Registered Dietitian.  The main areas of work will be administrative in terms of assisting with patient related paperwork or resources; and in assisting patients who are having difficulty meeting their nutritional requirements from food alone.  You will liaise with multidisciplinary teams to promote nutritional information, to increase nutritional intake and ensure appropriate therapeutic meal provision.  You will help co-ordinate the discharge of patients home on enteral tube feeding.

Essential criteria
  • General Education to GCSE level including English/ equivocal English qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Care Certificate
  • Previous Physiotherapy Dietetic Assistant or therapy assistant experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with the public.
  • Previous experience of caring for people in or outside of work
  • Experience of administrative work eg photocopying, filing.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in hospital setting

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to follow instruction and work both independently and within a team carrying out clinical and administration duties
