Job overview
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) Women’s and Children’s and Clinical Support Services Division is seeking to recruit a substantive Consultant Obstetrician, with a special interest in safety improvement, to work in the prestigious maternity unit at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking doctor who is driven by providing high quality care, improving safety, and has a flair for teaching and education.
ICHT provides maternity care to around 8500 women with low risk care provided in the community and in its co-located Birth Centres, high risk care provided at both Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea and St Mary’s Hospitals and tertiary services delivered on the Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital site.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role will include quality and safety improvement activities, antenatal clinic, covering Labour Ward, supporting elective Caesarean section lists, maternity day assessment unit (MDAU), and maternity patient safety activities. The role will include educational supervision and result endorsement duties. There will also be a requirement to participate in the obstetric on-call rota, which is currently a 1:15 commitment.

Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration: On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
- On GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
- MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
- MD, PhD
Knowledge/ Skills
Essential criteria
- CCT in obstetrics and gynaecology or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM
- IT Skills and computer literacy
Leadership/ management skills
Essential criteria
- Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
- Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues.
- Knowledge of finance/budgets
- Management of staff
- Experience in Risk Management
- Experience in quality improvement projects
Audit and Quality Improvement

- Understanding of principles of clinical audit
- Quality improvement leadership qualification / experience
Academic achievement
Essential criteria
- Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Language

- Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements

- Experience of teaching, training and supervising undergraduates/ postgraduates and junior medical staff
