Job overview
The purpose of this role is to work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of newborn babies, under the supervision of the Hearing Screening Manager.
The post holder will ensure all parents of eligible babies are offered the screen in a timely fashion and that the screen is carried out according to the national and local standards.
As a newborn hearing screener you will have direct handling of newborn babies and contact with parents. You will be required to perform hearing screens on newborn babies using automated equipment, record and collect data and liaise with parents and other professionals.
Main duties of the job
- To identify all newborns and perform hearing screening on them before the age of three months, accurately recording clinical and test data and informing parents of the results of tests in a professional and caring way.
- Paediatric Audiology at Charing Cross Hospital and other Hospital Departments and NHSP sites.
- To maintain up to date knowledge of procedures and policies relevant to this post. and to ensure the safety and security of equipment at all times reporting any problems to the Hearing Screening Co-ordinator at the earliest opportunity.
- To provide full information to mothers (or legal guardian) at the bedside about the newborn hearing screening service and the test procedures involved.
- To follow up any babies who have incomplete testing or who have been discharged prior to testing at an outpatients ‘mop up’ clinic held in the outpatients department.
- The purpose of this role is work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of newborn babies, under the supervision of the Hearing Screening Coordinator.
