We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician (MMPT) to join our expanding team within one of the UK’s leading NHS Trusts. Based primarily at Charing Cross Hospital, with cross-site working at Hammersmith and St Mary’s Hospitals, you will play an integral role in delivering clinical pharmacy services across medical wards.

As part of our forward-thinking and supportive pharmacy department, you will work within a multidisciplinary team alongside pharmacists, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals.

Together, you will help promote the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines, with a strong emphasis on patient education, medicines adherence, and discharge planning.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred medicines management service across the Trust.
  • Ensure services remain responsive to patients’ changing needs.
  • Support pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, and trainee pharmacy technicians in delivering ward-based services.
  • Contribute to audits and review services against agreed standards.
  • Promote the safe reuse of patients’ own medicines to support cost-effective care.
  • Ensure the safe and secure storage of medicines in patients’ bedside lockers.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
  • NVQ level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) and relevant underpinning knowledge (BTEC Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science) /AIMMs /MOP’s accreditation or equivalent (or within 6 months of starting the role, the postholder must be enrolled on and working towards completion of the HEE Medicines Optimisation Programme (or equivalent), and should complete it within 9 months of commencing the programme)
  • ACPT or recognised accredited pharmacy technician checking qualification (or to be achieved within 18 months of commencement)
  • Mandatory professional CPD as defined by the GPhC
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified NVQ assessor/Education Supervisor
  • Completed NHS England / CPPE Self- Development programme
  • Member of APTUK

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification experience of working in a UK hospital; this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of pharmacy computer systems
  • Experience of working as a ward based-technician
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing change
  • Experience of CMM pharmacy system
  • Experience of using electronic prescribing systems e.g. Cerner
  • Experience of training others

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing patient consultations with regard to medications
  • Good knowledge of main roles and practice of pharmacy staff
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Able to teach, supervise, and adapt effectively to change
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership and delegation skills
