Job overview
We are actively looking for a Junior Hand Fellow in Plastic Surgery to join the registrar rota at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust for a fixed term period of from 06/08/2025 to 04/08/2026.
The post is based at both the Charing Cross and St Mary’s sites and will provide a wide range of experience. The Department specializes in microsurgical reconstruction; head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction and extremity reconstruction. The Department also supports the Trust’s Level 1 Major Trauma Centre at St Mary’s Hospital. The Department is responsible for the care of general Plastic Surgery patients with an emphasis on tertiary referrals and undertakes between 200-250 free flaps per year.
The post is suitable for an individual wishing to pursue a career in Plastic surgery and has previously been held by individuals at the beginning of their training. This is not a formally approved training posts but the post holder will have Consultant-led education and supervision and will be supported in their professional development. Applicants must possess the MRCS or equivalent exam.
The successful applicant must have some previous experience in Plastic Surgery, preferably at Registrar level.
Applicants must be registered and licensed with the General Medical Council.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The duties of the post are performed at the 3 hospital across the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust; Charing Cross, St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals.
The post holder will join the Specialist Registrars’ daily and on call rota and will work closely with all Consultants in the care of routine and emergency clinical problems. The post‑holder will see all patients admitted to the Plastic Surgery Unit and perform a daily ward round with the Consultants, SpRs and SHOs. The post‑holder will join a 1 in 12 on call rota covering Plastic Surgical emergencies across the Trust and support to the Major Trauma Centre. The post‑holder will be expected to assist in the operating theatre and will undertake elective and emergency surgery, with supervision where appropriate. There are regular outpatient clinics and local anaesthetic operating lists. Teaching and supervision is provided for all the Plastic Surgery juniors.
Detailed protocols for clinical management are available which the post‑holders are expected to adhere to at all times.
Educational objectives:
To develop the post-holder’s clinical and surgical expertise in Plastic Surgery in general; however, this is not a recognized training post.
