Job overview

Opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated radiographer to work autonomously within our evolving CT service in a substantive post at Charing Cross Hospital.

Our CT department has 2 Siemens Scanners - a Dual Energy SOMATOM X.Cite (installed May 2023) and a reliable Definition AS+. We undertake a wide range of CT examinations including hyperacute stroke, A&E/acute, oncology, intervention, CT Colonography and will be starting Cardiac CT work in the near future.

We are looking to appoint a Band 7 Senior CT Radiographer that has current knowledge of radiology within the NHS, a minimum of 3 years post graduate experience and had previous CT experience. 

As a Senior CT Radiographer, you will be responsible for supporting the Modality Lead and colleagues from across the Trust in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care.

We have a number of radiographer led services/programmes which the successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining and developing (i.e. CT Colonography & training for junior colleagues). 
There will be an expectation to work shift patterns that will include weekends and out of hours (excluding nights).

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the provision of an efficient CT service.
  • Be responsible for supporting the CT Lead Radiographer and deputising in their absence.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of the Radiographers and Imaging Assistants.
  • Liaise with CT departments across the Trust/Sector to maintain cohesive working.
  • Work as part of a professional radiography team providing a high-quality diagnostic service. 
  • To maintain a sensitive and courteous approach to patients.
  • To develop and improve professional expertise via continuous professional development. 
  • To maintain a safe working environment within the CT department.

Education / qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc(Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • Health & Care Professions Council Registration
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate modules in topics relevant to post
  • Portfolio demonstrating ongoing CPD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of CT imaging techniques
  • Awareness of clinical governance issue in relation to patient care
  • Understanding of factors affecting service throughput and quality
  • Evidence of supervisory experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience as a Band 7 Senior Radiographer
  • Experience of training staff and students

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to teach and mentor students, more junior staff and new members of staff.
  • Ability to cope with work pressures and manage time effectively
  • Ability to cope with conflict and complaints at local level commensurate with Trust policies
  • Ability to work using own initiative but also to know when to seek assistance and guidance.
