Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who enjoys the challenge of working in a fast paced environment where no two days are the same and can provide excellent administrative support to the Major trauma ward in St Mary's hospital .

The role has a particular focus on patient communication and interactions, so it is essential that the applicant has experience with patient or customer facing roles.

Main duties of the job

  •  Brief duties include maintaining the ward communication through the whole Major trauma multi- disciplinal team  , taking phone calls and messages from members of staff, other departments or relatives, arranging transport for patients been discharged, transferred or leaving the ward for appointments while they are an inpatient. You will also book follow up appointments for discharged patients.
  • Other administration duties include documenting any admission, discharge or transfers information, ensuring there is adequate stock for the ward, ordering equipment that may be needed, reporting any faults that occur on the ward.
  • It will also involve assisting the nurse in charge in a multitude of administrative tasks to ensure the continuous smooth running of the Ward.
  • Some of these will ensure the smooth and timely movement of patients through the department in accordance with the emergency care standard.

  • GCSEs in Maths and English
  • General education to GCSE level or appropriate compensatory experience

  • Have the NVQ in level

  • Admin and clerical experience including knowledge of computer applications

  • Worked in a NHS trust / ward environment
